The process of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues, and the Armenian government hopes that the parties will be persistent in this matter. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at the discussion, entitled "From the frontline: Armenia’s defence of democracy," on the margins of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024, while answering the question about the complicated security situation around Armenia and referring to the country's strategic point of view on this matter.

Now the main problem is security. And what is our strategic point of view? How will we ensure security for our country? I recently gave a speech in our parliament, saying that I think the most important tool for ensuring security is a legitimate foreign policy, Pashinyan stated, detailing why Armenia talks so often about the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991.

The Armenia premier shared with the audience what the Alma-Ata Declaration is. It was adopted by 12 Soviet republics, indicating two very important ideas. First, the Soviet Union ceases to exist, and second, the administrative boundaries between the Soviet republics become national boundaries as the Soviet republics become independent countries.

On October 6, we had a quadrilateral meeting in Prague with the participation of the President of France, the President of the European Council, the President of Azerbaijan and myself, where two very important agreements were reached. First, Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the Alma-Ata Declaration. We also agreed that the Alma-Ata declaration should be the basis for the process of delimitation of the borders of the two countries, Nikol Pashinyan explained, drawing attention to the fact that there is no need to draw or create new borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as it is necessary to simply reproduce the existing ones on the ground itself.

That process continues, and we hope that we will be persistent in it, added the premier of Armenia.
