YEREVAN. – Another meeting of the monitoring group under the supervision of Armenia’s Parliament Speaker Samvel Nikoyan took place on Tuesday led by the leader of Armenia’s Democratic Party Aram Sargsyan.
The Chairperson of Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) Tigran Mukuchyan and the Chairperson of Armenia’s Television and Radio National Committee Grigor Amalyan were also present at the meeting.
Tigran Mukuchyan mentioned that until now 17,000 citizens have registered as local observes but this is not the final number. Besides, a large quantity of election guides has been published which will enable
the voter to get acquainted with his rights.
Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party.
For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%.
The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
