US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack shared a statement from the Turkish foreign ministry on the meeting of the Armenia-Turkey Joint Working Group on rehabilitation and operationalization of the Gyumri-Kars railway.

“Today marks an important milestone for regional connectivity and peace. Armenian and Turkish officials met in Kars, Türkiye to announce the formation of a joint working group to renovate the Kars-Gyumri Railroad, a vital trade and transit connection that brought the region together for more than a century before the last train crossed the Türkiye-Armenia border in July 1993,” the US ambassador wrote on X.

According to him, this progress reflects the vision advanced by the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity and the August 8 White House peace summit hosted by the US President.

The American diplomat emphasized that he applauds Turkey and Armenia's recent steps toward reconnecting their economies and peoples. In his assessment, a new South Caucasus—interconnected and at peace—is taking form, aligned with President Trump's commitment to stability and prosperity in the region.

The aforesaid meeting in Kars, Turkey on Tuesday was held within the framework of the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and the implementation of previously reached agreements. And the creation of a working group on the restoration of Armenian-Turkish railway communication is considered one of the key practical steps taken in this regard.
