This year a number of torture cases (forcible), including cudgeling out testimonies and violations of fair and just investigation were registered in Armenia by human rights activists. The statement by several Armenian HR activists released on Human Rights Day (celebrated on Dec.10) reads.

As a striking example of human rights’ violation they mentioned March 1-2, 2008 events and subsequent processes.

“To date, as a result of forced actions by authorities on March 1-2, ten citizens’ suspicious death and responsibles’ names are undisclosed. That is resolutions (1609, 1620, 1643, 1677) adopted by PACE on Armenia are not fully implemented. Presently, there are more than 10 political prisoners in prisons,” human rights activists informed, demanding from Armenian authorities to solve the mentioned issues.

The statement was signed by Helsinki Civil Assembly (Vanadzor office), Civil Society Institute, Transparency International anti-corruption center, Helsinki Committee of Armenia, Helsinki Association of Armenia as well as other organizations.
