Former New York City mayor and ally of the U.S. president Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to his press secretary Ted Goodman.

“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where his condition remains critical but stable. Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting with that same level of strength now. We ask you to join us in prayer for America’s mayor, Rudy Giuliani,” Goodman wrote on social media.

As NBC News notes, he did not specify why the 81-year-old former New York mayor was hospitalized or which hospital he was admitted to.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that Giuliani had been hospitalized.

On Friday evening, Giuliani hosted his show “America’s Mayor Live” from Palm Beach, Florida. Before the show began, he noted that his voice was “a little off” because of a cough.
