Red Bull's new RB17 hypercar, developed by legendary engineer Adrian Newey, is approaching the final stage before real races, and this is, in fact, a car that embodies the philosophy of Formula 1 without any restrictions, Autocar reports.

This is not a road car, but a "monster" designed exclusively for the track, created for maximum speed and aerodynamic efficiency.

The main feature of the RB17 is its powertrain. At the heart of the structure is a 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine developed by Cosworth. The engine itself develops about 1,000 horsepower and spins up to 15,000 rpm, which is directly reminiscent of the Formula 1 cars of the early 2000s.

This is supplemented by an electric motor with a capacity of about 200 horsepower, as a result of which the total power reaches an impressive 1,200 horsepower.

At the same time, the mass of this car is less than 900 kg, which creates an extreme power-to-weight ratio. In combination with active aerodynamics and enormous downforce, this, according to the developers, enables the car to show lap times comparable to Formula 1 cars.

Particular emphasis has been placed on aerodynamics: the RB17 can create a downforce that is almost twice its own weight. This means that at high speeds the car literally “sticks” to the track, providing an infinitely high level of grip.

The project was created by the Red Bull Advanced Technologies division and became the company’s first production car, although the “production” here is conditional, as only 50 of these cars will be released.

Each of them is offered with a full program of track operation and driving training.
