The human rights group DAWN has urged the US authorities to increase pressure “to stop Israel's aggression in Iran, Lebanon and beyond.” The respective statement came amid reports of a rift between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

DAWN executive director Omar Shakir said that media leaks and public statements of Washington’s displeasure with Israel’s actions are meaningless unless the US uses real levers of influence, including cutting off arms supplies to and intelligence sharing with Israel.

In his view, Israel’s strikes on Beirut were aimed at disrupting a developing agreement between the US and Iran.
