Senior Israeli defense ministry officials, during a security cabinet meeting this week, expressed disappointment at the announcement of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, The Jerusalem Post reports.

According to two sources familiar with the matter, senior Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) officials have told ministers and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has caused a sharp deterioration in Iran's economy, and the continued economic pressure could lead to a deeper crisis for Tehran.

The interlocutors noted that one of the sectors most affected by the blockade has been Iran's oil industry.

The sources added that maintaining the restrictions could force Iran to close new mines, potentially causing irreversible damage to a key source of state revenue.

Separately, NBC, citing an Israeli source, reported that Israel's government has not yet read the text of the memorandum of understanding.

The source, however, did not specify whether Israeli diplomats had asked the US to provide the text of the agreement.

But according to an American source, the US has made it clear to Iran that Israel will have the right to retaliate in the event of an attack by Hezbollah.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he personally signed the memorandum of understanding with Iran.

Iran also confirmed the signing of this memorandum.
