Former head of Hungarian diplomacy Péter Szijjártó is relinquishing his parliamentary mandate and moving to work for the Chinese company BYD.

“I have submitted my resignation from my parliamentary mandate. The reason is that I received an extremely honorable offer from one of the key companies in the global economy to take up an international position,” the former Hungarian minister of foreign affairs and trade said, Euronews reports.

He will be responsible for the group’s external relations and the development of new business areas. According to him, BYD is one of the biggest success stories in the automotive industry over the past 20 years and at the same time a global leader in the production of new energy vehicles.

In this regard, BYD Hungary told the MTI news agency that Péter Szijjártó will hold a “global, international position” and will not join the management of the company’s Hungarian division.
