The US Department of State has approved a possible sale to Saudi Arabia of up to 20,000 guidance kits for missiles with a total value of $1.96 billion. This was reported on the agency’s website on July 15.

“The US Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of precision-guided munitions systems and related equipment. The estimated total cost is $1.96 billion,” the publication said.

The kingdom’s authorities requested permission to purchase up to 10,000 APKWS-II laser guidance kits for air-to-air missiles and the same number of systems for air-to-ground missiles.

In addition to the guidance systems, the American side is prepared to supply Riyadh with related logistical support. The list of weapons planned for transfer includes LAU-131 A/A launchers, Mk-152 warheads, and other systems.
