A technical malfunction occurred during the flight of the plane carrying South African President Cyril Ramaphosa while he was on board. This was reported by the news portal News24.

Ramaphosa departed on the morning of July 16 from Waterkloof Air Force Base, located in a suburb of the country’s capital, Pretoria. The plane was headed to the city of Durban in the southeast of the republic, where the head of state was to take part in the launch of a new production line program at the automaker Toyota. However, during the flight the aircraft experienced a technical malfunction, the details of which have not been disclosed.

“Our aircraft developed a technical problem,” said South African presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya, as quoted by the portal. “We were forced to turn back and return to base.” Later, Ramaphosa was forced to address those gathered in Durban online.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
