The European Union will be ready to introduce retaliatory measures against the United States if Washington decides to withdraw from the agreement on 15% tariffs on European goods. Politico reported this, citing sources.

In March, the European Parliament ratified a trade agreement with the United States that confirms unilateral US tariffs of 15% on goods from the EU and obliges the bloc to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources by the end of 2028. Earlier, the Financial Times reported that US President Donald Trump could impose new tariffs on a dozen countries as early as this week.

According to Politico, Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, told EU member states’ ambassadors that she expects the United States to honor the agreement. She noted that the European Commission would be ready to introduce countermeasures in the event of a breach of the agreement.
