Within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, a discussion was organized on July 21 on the topic of preventing and effectively combating violence against women and domestic violence. This was reported by the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The discussion was attended by Georgi Khachatryan, head of the Professional and Methodological Support Department of the Main Department of Community Policing of the MIA Police, as well as representatives of the leadership of Police territorial subdivisions and of the RA Investigative Committee.

Georgi Khachatryan emphasized the importance of holding professional discussions in this format, noting that they serve as an effective platform both for identifying existing problems in the field and for ensuring a systematic and institutional response by police officers and investigators to cases of domestic violence.

He also stressed the importance of continuously improving existing mechanisms and tools, developing professional capacities, and ensuring effective cooperation between competent bodies.

During the discussion, Council of Europe national experts presented current challenges in the response of police and investigative bodies to cases of violence against women and domestic violence, practical problems that arise, as well as priorities aimed at resolving them and increasing the effectiveness of the work.

Participants also discussed issues of ensuring a systematic response by state bodies to cases of domestic violence, the interconnection of actions carried out at various stages, proper case traceability, and the organization of consistent follow-up work.

The purpose of the event was to contribute to the development of the professional capacities of police officers and investigators, as well as to improve the mechanisms of systematic response by state bodies in the field of preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
