The PROGRESS IV merchant ship caught fire in the Black Sea, in the exclusive economic zone of Romania, the Informat portal reports.

According to the report, the incident occurred on Thursday at around 19:00, about 32 kilometers from Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania.

“The ship was damaged and, most likely, sank. At the moment, we do not know who and why. An investigation will be conducted, there is no need to make assumptions,” Romanian President Nicusor Dan said.

He confirmed that all crew members were rescued, and emphasized that the incident had occurred in Romanian territorial waters.

According to the aforesaid portal, all 12 crew members were rescued, but one seafarer was injured.
