Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for supporting Iran during conflict with the US, reports Kommersant.

The Russian and Iranian presidents met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

“We [i.e. Iran] thank you for the position you have taken during the war, all conflicts, and US sanctions,” Pezeshkian said, addressing Putin. He noted that Moscow has supported Tehran in the UN and other international organizations.

According to the Iranian president, Iran’s participation in the SCO, among other things, aims to counter a unilateral approach in international relations.

“We want to go beyond this unilateralism. I am sure that we will prevail Pezeshkian said.

Putin, in turn, announced that Russia is trying to support Iran in a difficult situation.

“We have spoken with you about this issue, we are supplying you with the necessary goods,” the Russian leader said.

He added that despite the military and political situation, Russia and Iran manage to maintain the dynamics of bilateral trade that developed last year.
