The US military is carrying out strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump announced, calling the operation a retaliation for Tehran’s attempt to add sea mines in the strategic waterway and a missile attack on a US military base in Jordan. Trump noted this on Truth Social.

As per the US president, these strikes are “large and powerful.” Trump claims that Iran tried to add sea mines to the Strait of Hormuz, but they were “completely removed or detonated.”

In addition, Trump announced that Iran fired eight missiles at a US military base in Jordan, but all of them, he said, were shot down.

He called the American action a response to Iran’s actions and warned Tehran of the consequences of a possible retaliatory attack.

“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” the US president said.

At the same time, Trump made it clear that the current operation, according to him, is not the maximum American response.

“(...) but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!,” he wrote.

Trump’s statement came amid a new sharp escalation of the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, the US Central Command announced strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities in Iran, noting that the operation was due to Iran’s recent attempts to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American military personnel in the region.
