The Azerbaijani authorities have recognized the facts of vandalism in Shushi city of Azerbaijani-occupied Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), as tourists write directly on the surface of the rocks, despite the "information and enlightenment activities" and the imposition of fines by the authorities.

At the same time, the same authorities prefer not to notice the incomparably larger-scale destruction, alteration, and desecration of the Armenian historical and religious heritage in Artsakh.

The press secretary of the Shushi city state reserve department, Samaya Mammadova, made an appeal to the public, in which she informed about the cases of tourists leaving inscriptions on the surface of the rocks, the Azerbaijani Report.az news agency reports.

According to her, similar incidents have also occurred in the past.

“Regardless of the information and enlightenment work carried out and the application of fines, such undesirable situations continue to occur,” Mammadova stated.

She called on people to jointly counteract such vandalism in Shushi.

A paradoxical situation arises: the Azerbaijani authorities quite rightly call the actions of individual tourists who deface natural objects with graffiti “vandalism,” and even report the imposition of fines on violators. But at the same time, they do not give a similar assessment to the actions of their own state regarding the Armenian cultural and religious heritage of Artsakh.
