A Los Angeles podcaster has been arrested on charges of threatening US President Donald Trump, the local prosecutor's office said.

Benjamin Azariah Southworth, 40, was arrested on three charges, including threatening to kill US President Donald Trump and harassing his personal lawyer and his family, the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California stated.

According to the investigation, Southworth, whom the prosecutor's office calls a podcaster, had been expressing hatred towards Trump and his supporters on social media from January to May, and in April posted a video that included calls for retaliation against the American leader.

He faces up to five years in prison for threatening Trump, as well as the same amount for harassing his lawyer, and another two years could be imposed for making harassing calls to the lawyer, the prosecutor's office noted.
