Two people have died after a light plane crashed in a rural area south of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia, police said.

The Beech Bonanza crashed on private property in the Stockleigh area about 10 minutes after taking off from Brisbane’s secondary airport at Archerfield.

A large fire broke out in the grassy area after the plane crashed.

The pilot and the latter’s passenger were killed.

Authorities said debris from the plane was scattered across the area and the fire quickly spread over an area of about 300 to 400 meters.

Several fire crews arrived at the scene and were able to quickly contain the fire, which had approached a house on a farm.

No homes were damaged.

Police said there was no information at this phase of the investigation about what had happened to the plane during the flight.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation into the crash.
