Some drivers in France have started using rapeseed oil instead of diesel due to rising fuel prices in the country, BFMTV television reports.

In France, a liter of rapeseed oil costs 1.53 euros, which is almost 1 euro cheaper than diesel.

A video has been widely shared on social media, where young people fill their cars with vegetable oil. It has already collected more than 1 million views.

But many drivers in France do not plan to switch to rapeseed oil, as they fear that the engine—in particular, the fuel supply system—of their vehicles may break down. In addition, a fine of 200 euros is set for using non-compliant fuel in the country.

On September 20, the price of diesel fuel in France reached a record high of 2.41 euros per liter. Maud Bregeon, the official spokesperson for the French government and Minister Delegate for Energy, noted on LCI television, that the government was developing an additional financial assistance program for those in France who drive a car due to work.
