Opposition Popular Party MP Ana Vazquez was forced to leave a session of the Congress of Deputies of Spain after wielding a pepper spray.

Vazquez brandished the can while questioning the Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, over the security situation in the autonomous city of Ceuta, which is facing a migrant crisis.

The lawmaker wielded the pepper spray canister and called it "a symbol of the lack of freedoms that women in Ceuta face."

"This is a basic school item," Vazquez said. "Is this the new normal that the people of Ceuta will have to get used to?"

In turn, speaker of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, stated: “According to Article 101 and the weapons registry, the pepper spray device that Ms. Vazquez showed is a weapon.”

Subsequently, speaker of the parliament asked Vazquez to leave the chamber.
