17-year-old Mariam Matsakyan received a thigh fracture during the physical education class and was taken to Abovyan’s Medical Center on May 18, where she died two days later, the head of the medical center Arthur Petrosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We cannot tell for sure what the reason was. Clinically it is fat embolism which occurs when fat enters into the bloodstream from the marrow,” Arthur Petrosyan said.

According to him, at around 6 a.m. on May 20 the fat embolism started. Matsakyan's condition was critical and it was not possible to take her to Yerevan.

A preliminary investigation was started at Kotayk region’s police department.
