Egypt’s intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, had warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the third time, just days before the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, about an impending attack from the Gaza Strip, The Wall Street Journal reports.

“It was early October 2023 and two Egyptian warnings about signs of an impending attack from Gaza had gone unheeded by Israel. Kamel called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver a third alert, said officials in an Arab government,” The Wall Street Journal notes.

The sources said that the Egyptian authorities first warned Israel in June 2023 about the unstable situation in the Gaza Strip and advised it to resume negotiations with Hamas.

In September, Kamel traveled to Israel and warned that the situation in Gaza was extremely dire and could turn into a disaster for everyone, the sources said.

According to them, the Israeli authorities, however, ignored the warnings, declaring that the situation was under control.

The Egyptians continued to warn Israel until 48 hours before the start of the attack, The Wall Street Journal notes.

In addition, according to the newspaper, in September 2023, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also called Netanyahu to warn him about signs of a Hamas attack being prepared.
