A rare 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was sold for $2.04 million at The Quail Auction 2026, Motorious reports.

This car from the collection of Bill and Linda Feldhorn became one of the most notable lots at the Broad Arrow Auctions auction.

The car’s main feature was its unusual factory Light Green Metallic color. Only 15 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadsters were originally painted in this shade at the factory. With a green leather interior, the car has retained the original color combination, rare for the model, typical of the 1950s.

The car’s history is also connected with American auto racing. It was formerly owned by Camoradi USA team owner Lucky Casner. Later, the car remained in the same family for 41 years, from 1966 to 2007.

Later, this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL underwent a complete restoration, up to the dismantling of individual parts. The work was carried out by noted marque expert Rudi Koniczek. After the restoration, the car earned multiple first-in-class awards, including at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the Gull Wing Group Annual Convention, and it has been shown at the invite-only Hampton Court Palace Concours of Elegance.

At the same time, this rare Roadster was not just a demonstration model. After restoration, it was regularly serviced by classic Mercedes-Benz specialists, and the car participated in several historic car rallies, totaling about 1,000 miles.

The car's chassis, engine, body, transmission, spindles, rear axle, and steering box are all matching numbers as per its Mercedes-Benz Data Card. Desirable period equipment includes Rudge-style knock-off wheels and a Becker Mexico radio.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster appeared in 1957 as an open version of the famous 300 SL Gullwing. The car has a three-liter inline six-cylinder engine with mechanical fuel injection, but differed from the coupe in being significantly more suitable for everyday use.

The combination of rare factory color, original equipment, racing history, long-term family ownership, and award-winning restoration helped the car achieve a seven-figure price at auction.
