The court on Tuesday granted the prosecution’s motion and decided to extend the house arrest of Vardan Ghukasyan, the Mayor of Gyumri, for another three months.
Ghukasyan’s lawyers, meanwhile, had filed a motion to impose administrative supervision on their client.
Ghukasyan, who was elected mayor of Gyumri in March last year, is accused of taking a large bribe from a Gyumri businessman to legalize his already constructed illegal building.
Ghukasyan is accused also of abuse of official position and money laundering. This case relates to his previous term in office, in the 2000s.
In addition, the mayor of Gyumri is included in a proceeding to confiscate illegal property.
