Until the illegal detention of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan is canceled, it is unnecessary to talk about normal political life, stated Bagrat Mikayelyan, the head of the office of the second president, during a press conference on Wednesday.

Mikayelyan emphasized that the second president of Armenia is deprived of the opportunity to communicate with his political team and engage in political activities, and all this is without a court decision.

The head of Kocharyan's office noted that under any decision—and this is already the fourth detention of Kocharyan—there is no signature of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and tomorrow he will say that he has nothing to do with it at all, since the signatures of Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, Tsovak Mnatsakanyan—the Deputy Head of the Department of Supervision over Legality of Pre-trial Proceedings in the Anti-Corruption Committee—and the judges are put.

"Accountability falls on unexpectedly—and in the form of a surprise," Mikayelyan noted.

He reminded that the second president of Armenia is under the supervision of the State Protection Service, which is directly subordinate to Pashinyan, and in such conditions it is unnecessary to talk about the possibility of “impeding the investigation.”

“In these conditions, the arrest means that the order was received from a neighboring country, and it is carried out by people with Armenian surnames,” Mikayelyan stated.

He reminded that during the forced deportation of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023, thousands of people had crossed the Hakari Bridge, but it did not even occur to the Azerbaijanis to detain the sons of Armenian political and military figures.

“A father and son are sitting in the Armenian branch of the Baku prison. It is time for [the Armenian authorities] to come to their senses. Let me remind: let them see what is happening with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy,” Mikayelyan stated.
