One of the streets of Sur town (Kurdish populated Diyarbekir province of Turkey) was named after Armenian writer Mkrtich Markosyan, Turkish Haber 3 website reports.

The town Mayor Abdullah Demirbas underlined that Armenian writer described Diyarbekir and its cultural heritage in his books. Thus, the authorities wish to express their gratitude to the Armenian nation.

Mkrtich Markosyan was born in Diyarbekir in 1938. He graduated from Istanbul University and worked in Armenian newspapers Marmara and Agos (published in Turkey). Since 1997 he is writing for Yeniyuzyil daily.
