Newly appointed PACE President Movlud Cavushoglu assured RA Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan that Azerbaijani APA news agency ascribed to him a number of statements. In the course of phone conversation, Cavusoglu told RA Speaker that “the statements were a result of incomplete translation and misunderstanding by Azerbaijani journalist.” Abrahamyan congratulated Cavusoglu on his appointment and called on him to take up wise and balanced stance on regional issues in course of his presidency. The officials exchanged opinions on Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process without preconditions and discussed possible visit of PACE President to Armenia, RA Parliament press service informed NEWS.am.

January 26, in an interview with APA news agency PACE President Movlud Chavushoglu stated that Karabakh conflict is one of the major problems in the region, as well as an obstacle to Armenia-Turkey reconciliation. “Karabakh was always marked as a national territory of Azerbaijan Republic in the CE decisions,” he added. Three coalition parties — Republican Party, Prosperous Armenia and Orinats Yerkir issued a statement, drawing RA parliament leadership’s attention to the remark by Cavusoglu. In case of necessity, coalition calls to thoroughly discuss the issue on freezing Armenian delegation’s activities in PACE during Cavusoglu’s presidency.
