YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party-led “Barev [Hello], Yerevan” bloc member Daniel Ionesyan filed a petition, to the Administrative Court on Friday, against the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

The formal request appeals the CEC’s recent decision, whereby the event which the capital city Yerevan Municipality had organized on April 7—and in connection with the Motherhood and Beauty Day in Armenia—, was not considered a violation of the Election Code, the aforesaid bloc’s press service informs. 

To note, during that event flowers were distributed to women and girls on behalf of serving Mayor—and mayoral candidate—Taron Margaryan, and this, as per the “Barev, Yerevan” bloc, is considered campaigning for Margaryan at the expense of the taxpayers’ money.      

Plaintiff Ionesyan petitions that the aforesaid event be qualified as a provision of free goods and services to the citizens on behalf of the candidate, and this act is prohibited by the Election Code.     

To note, the Heritage Party activists had recorded this event on camera. 

The respective court session will convene on Saturday at 4pm. 

In addition, Daniel Ionesyan submitted a second petition to CEC, and with respect to information on election violations. With this formal request, the CEC is required to declare null and void its registration of the election list of the ruling Republican Party (RPA) because, in line with the petition, RPA committed numerous election violations. 

This formal request is expected to be considered next week.
