make preferableYEREVAN. – Four activists participating in a protest action against rise in transport fares have been detained by police on Tuesday afternoon.
Four people were summoned to police department within the framework of a criminal case, police press service told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The members of the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative gathered Tuesday morning nearby the municipality building.
Another demonstration is slated for 4pm in the vicinity of the Yerevan Municipality. Until then, however, the activists will walk around the city, and those joining the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative will continue to drive the commuters with their own vehicles, and at no cost.
Public transport fares in Armenia’s capital rose by 1.5-2 times starting from July 20. The bus fare made AMD 100 instead of 50, while minibus fare increased from AMD 100 to 150.
