YEREVAN. – Demonstrators protesting against police violence on Komitas Avenue moved from the building of the Armenian Police to the building of the General Prosecutor’s Office and handed over a letter containing for demands to the prosecutor and police (photo).
The demonstrators demand that police must provide effective and practical implementation of the right to peaceful assembly. Secondly, they must find and bring to justice “civil provocateurs and terrorists” who have committed acts of provocation against the protesters. Thirdly, eliminate the illegal actions against members of the protest action.
In the fourth paragraph activists demand from Armenia’s Prosecutor to initiate criminal cases on the basis of reports from citizens and the media, and to hold accountable police officers who broke the law.
The rally was relatively calm and was not accompanied by serious clashes between police and demonstrators. Later, protesters marched to the building of Yerevan Municipality.
