YEREVAN. – The police detained, in front of Yerevan State University on Monday at around 11:40am, a participant in the demonstration being staged against the rise in tuition fees.
First, the law enforcement officers asked Harutyun Mkrtchyan—a second-year student of International Relations—to come with them to the police station, but he refused to do so. Subsequently, the police officers put Mkrtchyan into the police car and took him to the police station.
Earlier, the police had asked the protesting students not to make noise and not to use loudspeakers stating that those not adhering to this instruction will be detained.
The law enforcement officers also confiscated Harutyun Mkrtchyan’s loudspeaker.
