YEREVAN. – The activists arrested in Yerevan city downtown after clashes with police will be prosecuted for dangerous violence against the representative of authority, the attorney informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to the Attorney Tigran Safaryan, citizen activists David Haroutyunyan, Karen Haroutyunyan, and Vahagn Minasyan are charged with dangerous violence against the representative of authority, which allows five to ten years of imprisonment.

Armenian News-NEWS.am informed that another activist, Vilen Gabrielyan, was arrested, while two other citizens, Arsen Ghazaryan and Alen Simonyan, have been released. At the moment, Armenia’s Police Service Chief Vladimir Gasparyan is in the Yerevan city Central police department, where the activists were detained.

Earlier Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that the head of the United National Initiative Shant Haroutsunyan, who has been holding the protest action in the Liberty Square in Yerevan downtown, declared a revolution on Tuesday. Haroutsunyan with about a hundred supporters in masks, initiated an “Anonymous rally” to the Armenia’s presidential residence. The police stopped the rally before it reached the residence, however, clashed with explosions occurred during police operation. Shant Haroutsunyan, his son Shahen and 35 other rally participants were arrested and detained; over a dozen of citizens, including law enforcement agents, were hospitalized.
