YEREVAN. – Armenia’s New Political Culture Party Chairwoman Ani Zakharyan held a signature campaign, on Thursday at Liberty Square in capital city Yerevan, demanding the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan.

To note, at the party’s first-ever public meeting on November 24, Zakharyan had given the government six months to increase the minimum monthly wages and pensions in the country to 100,000 drams (approx. $247), and to resolve all legal matters to “release the political prisoners.” Otherwise, she had warned that she would start a signature campaign and demand the resignation of Sargsyan.

To the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter’s query as to why she decided to start the signature campaign ahead of time, Zakharyan responded that there are people that demand the Sargsyan’s resignation forthwith.

“These signatures already attest to the fact that they do not want to give [Sargsyan] time,” she added.

To the question as to whether she is capable of governing a country, the New Political Culture Party leader specifically responded: “I have a great desire to see the dignified future and present of our country. And, to achieve all this, much work is needed to be done, which I am willing [to do], and this only causes me human pleasure. [It causes me] satisfaction because I consider my human type to be an altruist.”
