YEREVAN. – It is still too early to rejoice over new PM Hovik Abrahamyan’s statement on the suspension of the “mandatory” component of the funded pension law. 

Non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Vahan Babayan told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It is still too early to call [it] a victory, but it can be considered a positive shift. Everything will show when the time comes to pay the people [their salaries].

“The domain of cooperation offers greater opportunities today, and the new government had to try to resolve these issues. 

“It is very difficult to change everything in one day; there is a need to cooperate. At any rate, the mandatory component should not be in any way; it’s impossible,” Babayan specifically stated.   

To the query as to what changed and why Abrahamyan decided to suspend the mandatory pension deductions from the salaries, the PAP MP responded: “It is the wish of the eighty percent of the people, and whoever would have sat [on the chair of the] PM, had to heed them.”
