YEREVAN. – Armenia will have a tolerant parliament under Galust Sahakyan’s leadership, National Assembly (NA) Acting Speaker, ruling Republican Party (RPA) Spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters. 

He noted that he considers a healthy competition to be indispensable, and that he has respect toward Sahakyan’s opponent, Hrant Bagratyan, in Tuesday’s secret-ballot voting for the new NA Speaker.

“But I believe under the headship of the candidate, whose victory is expected, we will have a tolerant parliament that respects other people’s views,” Sharmazanov stated.

The election results will be announced at 2:30pm.  

The candidates running for the position of NA Speaker are Galust Sahakyan from the ruling Republican Party NA Faction, and self-nominated Hrant Bagratyan from the opposition Armenian National Congress Faction.
