The “Reporters Without Borders” NGO has allocated monetary assistance to the family of jailed Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadirov.  

The funds were transferred to Mirkadirov’s wife Adele Babakhanova, who is currently in Ankara with their two children, Echo newspaper reported.   

But the family’s status is uncertain; their visas will expire soon, whereupon the family will be deported. 

Prominent Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadirov was arrested on April 19, and on charges of espionage. He is accused of working with Armenia’s special services. The Azerbaijani Prosecutor’s Office claims he had met with the representatives of Armenian intelligence and carried out their instructions.
