YEREVAN. – Armenian analyst Alexander Iskandaryan believes Russia is not tending to intrude in Ukraine.

Iskandaryan, director of the Caucasus Institute, said  Ukrainian army has resources to take Slovyansk, but has no resources to take the east.

“I think that at the moment there is a dominant opinion in Russia that Ukrainians will cope with collapse of their state by their own. However, other options are possible if Russia has no other way. If hundreds of people die in the east, the most unexpected events may follow,” he said.
 
As to upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine, Iskandaryan believes the elections may not bring stabilization.

“Large groups of Ukrainian citizens will not recognize election results. The key dates are May 9 when clashes may occur, then May 11 when the so-called referendum is held and May 25 that is the election day,” he noted.
