YEREVAN. – Armenia's population increased by 1,691 people in the first quarter of 2014, National Statistical Service official Karine Kuyumjyan told reporters.

During the first quarter, the birth rate increased by 2.2% as compared the same period last year, she said, adding that 9,789 children were born.

Kuyumjyan said 8,098 deaths were registered in the same period, thus the rate of natural increase reached 1,691, a 10%-increase as compared with the previous year.
