PreferredYEREVAN. – It would be better if professional ambassadors deal with their diplomatic mission instead of the internal affairs of other countries.
Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Hovhannes Sahakyan, who is also newly elected Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Sahakyan stated the aforesaid reflecting on Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin’s statements with respect to the activities by the pro-European NGOs.
The MP, however, also expressed a view that the Russian diplomat may have meant his own country.
“Today, we [Armenia] have an established and developing civil society, NGOs. The work of several NGOs is aimed at the improvement of a domain. [But] there are, of course, also those that are created to participate in grant programs,” Sahakyan noted.
In his conviction, it should be done in such a way that the NGOs become more consistent and organized, and that they resolve more specified matters.
“The ambassadors from other countries, on the other hand, can make such statements in their own countries,” Hovhannes Sahakyan concluded.
As reported earlier, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin had spoken with Russian-Armenian newspaper Noev Kovcheg.
“I am convinced that Russia should be more active in asserting its presence in the information field here in Armenia. But other methods are also apparently needed for neutralizing those NGOs in Armenia that want to drive a wedge into Russian-Armenian relations. Incidentally, Russia has enacted a law that regulates the work of NGOs in a very concrete manner. Ultimately, it is apparent that those who aim their actions against the Russian-Armenian friendship, do not wish the best for Russia and Armenia,” the Russian diplomat had specifically stated.
