YEREVAN. – The matter of passing from a mandatory nine-year education to a mandatory twelve-year education in Armenia will be discussed at the next National Assembly (NA) special session, which will get underway on May 12.      

The Government will submit to the NA the respective bill with amendments to the Law on Education. 

The explanatory section of the bill notes that the necessary funds for this objective are already decided in accordance with the 2014-2016 medium-term expenditure program.

The bill is expected to take effect as of the next school year.

In line with the 2009 data, the secondary education prevalence amounted to about 90 percent in Armenia.
