YEREVAN. – Armenian capital city Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan held a meeting with the Yerevan Municipality staff.

They conferred on the Diaspora Ministry’s Come Home program for the Diaspora-Armenian youth, informed the Municipality Information and Public Relations Department. 

“The Yerevan Municipality is actively involved in the Come Home program for the sixth year. And since the program expands each year, we [the municipality] stand ready to take appropriate steps to host a larger number of Diaspora-Armenian children in Yerevan,” Margaryan stressed.

For her part, Hakobyan underscored the role of the districts and other departments in charge in the hosting of these children.

“Over the course of the past five years, we have welcomed more than 5,000 Diaspora-Armenian children. As a result, about 50,000 Armenians have become friends with one another. It is planned that around 1,000 [Diaspora-] Armenian children will visit the Motherland this year. Coming to Yerevan, many of them fall in love with the capital city and see their future here,” the minister specifically noted.

The discussants stated that a joint working group will be formed to carry out this year’s Come Home program. 

The Yerevan mayor and the diaspora minister also conferred on the preparations for the forthcoming “My Armenia” cultural festival, and the Fifth Armenia-Diaspora Congress, which will be convened in Yerevan in September.
