YEREVAN. – US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern has merely repeated OSCE Minsk Group US Co-Chair James Warlick’s statement on Karabakh.

Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office Director, human rights activist Artur Sakunts noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday commenting on Heffern’s recent tweet.

As per the human rights activist, however, Warlick’s statement presents no danger to Armenia’s sovereignty.
“It’s just a proposal around which discussions can be held. Warlick’s statement refers solely to the [Karabakh] negotiation process.

“Let’s distinguish between a proposal and an assignment,” Sakunts noted hinting Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin’s recent statement on the need to “neutralize” those pro-European NGOs in Armenia that want to “drive a wedge” into Russian-Armenian relations. 

John Heffern had recently tweeted that the sections in James Warlick’s speech, which he delivered at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on May 7, generally repeat the Madrid Principles for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
