YEREVAN. – One of the topics, which Armenian and French President Serzh Sargsyan and François Hollande will discuss at their talk, is the prospects for cooperation between the Armenian and Azerbaijani activists, and concerning a pacific settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday commenting on Hollande’s state visit to Armenia on the same day.

As per Minasyan, the abovementioned matter was discussed also during the French president’s meeting in Baku with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

In the analyst’s words, in recent weeks official Baku is putting pressure on all Azerbaijani NGOs and activists that try to establish a dialogue with the Armenian side.

According to the analyst, however, there is no need to pin great hopes on a bilateral discourse because even though Armenia always has been ready to cooperate, the developments occurring in Azerbaijan bespeak a negative scenario on the development of events.

As reported earlier, prominent Azerbaijani journalist Rauf Mirkadirov was arrested on April 19, and on charges of espionage. He was accused of working with Armenia’s special services.
