The Iranian foreign minister has not yet received an official invitation to visit Saudi Arabia, but the meeting of the two ministers is on the agenda, Iran Deputy FM Hossein Amir Abdulahian stated.

According to him, Iran and Saudi Arabia play an important role in the Middle East, reported RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.  

Saudi Arabia FM Saud Al Faisal on Tuesday stated that official Riyadh is prepared to discuss with official Tehran the avenues for improving bilateral relations, and to invite his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to Saudi Arabia.

In the past, however, Saudi Arabia, which is considered the regional leader of Sunni Muslim countries, was not interested in a dialogue with Shia Muslim Iran.
