YEREVAN. – The average age at first marriage for men and women is rising, official from Armenia's National Statistical Service said.

Karine Kouyumdjian noted that the median age at first marriage climbed to 25-26 for women and 29-30 for men.

Besides, the number of divorces is growing with one divorce for 1,000 people. As of 2011 data, 60% of population are married, 2.6% are divorced, 9% are widows and widowers, the remaining 28.4% have never been married.

Psychologist Anna Badalyan, for her part, noted that one of the factors contributing to a large number of divorces is migration.

“Men are leaving their families to earn their living abroad. They are potentially considered divorced, as in fact, it is no longer a full family as we perceive it ,” she said.
