YEREVAN. – Hovik Abovyan has been appointed a governor of Tavush Region, Armenian PM said during government's meeting on Thursday.
Abovyan will replace Armen Gularyan who has been in office since 1999. Abovyan previously by rotation served as chief of all three customs checkpoints on Armenia-Georgia border: Bavra, Privolniy and Bagratashen.
He was later elected to the National Assembly of Armenia, and is a member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.
