YEREVAN. – Polish Ambassador to Armenia Zdzisław Raczyński is convinced that Eastern Partnership project is not dead, since there are countries willing to accept these proposals.

The diplomat recalled that Eastern Partnership initiative was to strengthen EU ties with eastern neighbors.

“In the past, EU did not put forward such ambitions programs. The aim was not to make geopolitical changes in Europe, but invite partners to close cooperation and promote internal modernization. Different countries used this proposal in a different way, taking into account their interests and idea of cooperating with EU,” Raczyński said during a press conference on Friday.
 
He recalled that Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia declared intention to continue cooperation, while Ukraine signed the first part and is ready to sign the economic part, too.

“The government of Yatsenyuk clearly stated this. Practical implementation of the agreement is in progress. Most likely Moldova and Georgia will sign agreements in June,” he said.

Ambassador noted those who want to stop cooperation with EU are opposing Eastern Partnership project.
 
Asked whether the EU's response to Ukraine was adequate, Polish diplomat noted that the EU consists of 28 countries and it is very difficult to find a common position convenient to all.

By drawing parallels with the CIS, Ambassador said: “One of the CIS members was subject to aggression. Part of it is cut off, but the other members of the CIS did not display coordinated position”.

According to him, Ukrainian events can be the deciding factor for the EU to start in-depth political and military cooperation.

“Ukrainian events were the result of country's desire to become a European country. We do not want to get the country out of the CIS . We have not talked about NATO membership. The problem is that we wanted, and the country itself wanted to become a member of a free trade zone. But apparently it is against the interests of a third country. She immediately saw the threat,” he said.
