The Security and Crisis Management Council of Georgia has announced that seven people are considered missing as a result of the landslide that occurred in the morning of May 17 at the Darial Gorge.

But contradictory reports are received about the victims.

“Three trucks have remained under the boulders. In addition, according to preliminary information, construction was in progress in the tunnel at the time of the landslide, and several construction workers likewise are under the soil,” the council statement specifically reads. 

To note, hundreds of vehicles—including from Armenia—are returning, since it is unclear how long the road cleaning will take. Furthermore, the landslide caused an accident at the Georgian section of the North-South natural gas pipeline, which supplies Russian gas to Armenia.
