YEREVAN. – The number of communities in Armenia must reduce from 915 to not more than 300, Prime Minister said.

The country cannot afford having such a number of municipalities, Hovik Abrahamyan said as he presented the government's program. He brought an example of Germany where municipalities were enlarged three times.

“I think we need to take the lead. The financial capacity of communities will increase dramatically, and the residents will  benefit,” he said.

Armenian PM reminded that the Ministry of Territorial Administration is discussing pilot projects on amalgamation of four communities in Meghri, Dilijan, Jermuk and Tatev.
